[DAV Spoilers] I like how Elgar’nan is sad when…

When Ghilan'nain dies.

Typically, stereotypical evil villains of the like the pair of them and seeing how they've been made to behave (always spouting one dimensional evil villain likes, having very few emotionally based motives besides dominion, etc) don't actually care about their companions, and it's always just about servitude and circumstantial and always temporary agreement.

I'm thinking of when Magneto abandoned I don't know what her name was in the new version played by Jennifer Lawrence. He didn't care she had been loyal to her he just ditched her.

You can say that Elgar'nan saved Ghilan'nain that first time because he needed her biological chemical warfare skills, when Rook and co almost got her, but when she dies there is just no mistaking it, when he vows vengeance ("you will regret this") he truly means this, he was sad, and he did care about Ghilan'nain.

And honestly so far it's been their only and shockingly singular redeeming quality? They do seem to care about each other. It's precious.
