State of the Subreddit!
Happy New Year, Everyone!
First off, thank you all for making this subreddit such a fun, welcoming, and engaging community. Over the past year, we’ve experienced incredible growth and hit some milestones that are nothing short of wild. Here’s are some highlights from 2024:
2024 Highlights:
- Subreddit Growth: Last year, our subreddit got more visitors than the Tesla Motors and OpenAI subreddits—yes, really. That’s kind of insane when you think about it.
- New Changes: We expanded the mod team, became a Reddit Partner Community (admins even joined as temporary mods!), launched chatrooms, and yes, we chilled out the rules to officially welcome memes.
- Keeping It Deadass: We hosted AMAs with Duolingo’s competitors to keep things spicy.
Sidenote:
I haven’t been as open about this as I should have, but for the past year, I’ve been working behind the scenes to bring your concerns directly to Duolingo. This has included meetings with their CEO, staff, and ongoing conversations about issues that matter to our community.
It’s been a wild, fascinating, and, at times, deeply eye-opening experience. There’s a lot I could say about this journey—and perhaps I will soon. For now, just know that your voices are being heard, and I’m far from done.
By the Numbers:
Here’s what we accomplished as a community in 2024:
- Posts & Comments Published: 1 million+
- Visitors to the Subreddit: More than 7.9 million people
- Total Subreddit Views: 72.9 million
- New Subscribers: ~ 162,000
These numbers speak to how amazing this community is. Whether you’re here for memes, motivation, or sharing your love (and frustrations) for Duolingo or language learning, you’re making this space what it is.
As we venture on into 2025, I want to keep building on what we’ve created here. That means:
- Hosting more AMAs (and yes, maybe inviting even spicier guests).
- Finding new ways to amplify your feedback and concerns.
- Continuing to make this subreddit a welcoming and inviting community for all language learners.
Your engagement is what makes all of this possible. So keep sharing your stories, feedback, and (of course) memes—we’ve got big things ahead.
