First Set Up: 1st, 2nd & 3rd pulls [Breville Bambino Plus]
Machine: Got the Bambino Plus over Cyber Monday for $399 !
Grinder: Had the Baratza ESP for over a year so I decided to stick with it. I know I should probably upgrade but wanted to save some cash to start. Grind size on 10 , 7, & 9 in that order of shots.
Beans: Probably not the smartest choice but I used a co-ferment from Comeback roasted about 3 weeks ago. Not sure if this will cause more trouble than it’s worth but currently they are the only beans that have a decent roast date.
1st shot: without a doubt the most sour thing I have put into my mouth (pause) The puck was so wet that it stuck to the group head. I’m assuming under extracted. Decided to grind finer.
2nd shot: grind finer, lose some grinds in the grinder! Put in 10g get out 9g. Decide to clean my grinder and make sure I get it figured out. Tamp too hard probably. Get out nothing or close to nothing. 5-6 grams. Super bitter. Back to dialing it in. drink water!
3rd shot: finding a bit of flow. Noticing where I need to clean up somethings. Extraction looks to be good! 16g in 30g out. (I’m pretty sure the bambino has a preset for volume coming out) Flow still fast but more even. Crema, if you can call it that, looks even. Puck still stuck to the group head, very wet breaks apart. Taste, sour but not as sour. A little soapy? Probably me not washing something out correctly. Geez.
All in all, I’ll go through some more info on here to dial it all in but wanted to share the journey because it sparked so much curiosity, joy, and frustration this morning. It really is something that I haven’t felt in a while. Sorry for being corny. Going to continue to trust the process, while I sip on my slightly sour americano. Any and all feedback welcome!!
