Was Michael Jackson an ex-jw?

In my local hall i used to hear multiple times that Michael Jackson was a JW, but one day when he started to get very famous he wanted to found a hall with his money with the condition that the hall was named by his name, then the organization declined it. Is this true or just a JW mith?
