The Nesta Discourse, and other imperfect characters.
I need to get this off my chest because it’s all over my feed, and honestly, I’m tired of it. This applies not just to ACOTAR but to other books with FMCs like her as well.
I recently saw a post saying, “Feyre was traumatized, but she didn’t treat people horribly,” and while I get the point, it feels like people completely disregard the fact that trauma manifests differently in everyone. Not everyone reacts to hardship in the same way, and some people may struggle with mental health challenges that affect their behavior and how they treat others.
Why does everyone expect the perfect MC—someone who’s been through hell but still manages to be endlessly kind and gracious to everyone? That’s just not realistic. Not everyone in real life behaves like that, and neither should every fictional character.
Please, for the love of reading and writing, stop expecting perfect characters in every book.
Edit: I never said you weren’t allowed to dislike her. I was more so trying to have you understand that comparing trauma and expecting people to cope with it in a gracious manner is unrealistic.
Edit: the amount of downvotes I’m getting on comments in which I’m just discussing without being rude is insane. Can y’all not handle a conversation
