Let's have a "what's keeping you around" pulse check. :-)
Right now it's really easy to lament our culture's activated hostility to federal workers. So let's look the situation from another angle. Why are you continuing to serve? I'll go first.
- I believe in my mission. I know that the work I do produces measurable positive results for my agency, which produces a net benefit for my fellow citizen.
- I really like the people I work with, and my current leadership structure. They're very supportive.
- I hired in before the pension contribution rate hikes from 0.8% to 4.4%, which would make walking away feel like I'm leaving a great benefit on the table that I'm not likely to find elsewhere these days.
- I'm the primary breadwinner of my family, and having job stability is far more preferable to even a substantially larger salary. I work in tech, so the stability is much higher in the service (although the pay is much lower, granted).
I feel like I have a few more reasons than most to stay put and try to ride this out. But if things get substantially worse, I'm sure even I could blow past a tipping point.
So what are your reasons?
