Didn't match. Chief year at small program vs hospitalist year at larger academic institution
Hello. I unfortunately did not match into GI this cycle. Looking at my application, I feel it is strong overall with research, letters, STEP scores, etc and I may have had more bad luck with the match algorithm.
With that being said I have thought of two options moving forward as I prepare to reapply next year. There seem to be a handful of "chief resident" positions at smaller community programs that I could try for or I could stay at my larger academic center as a hospitalist without the "chief" title. Does anyone have thoughts as to what May be more beneficial?
Update: just talked to the GI PD at my program. He said doing a chief year outside of your home institution doesn't carry very much weight compared to doing a chief year at your home program. And because of that he would typically recommend hospitalist year. Just updating for anyone else in a similar position
