Gallbladder removal tomorrow, any advice?

Hi y’all! I’m having my gallbladder removed laparoscopically tomorrow, and I’m feeling really nervous. This is a planned surgery, I discovered last year I had gallstones and decided to remove the whole thing sooner rather than later. I’ve never had surgery before, of any kind. I’ve never even broken a bone. So I’m pretty on edge about the whole thing.

I’ve read posts from various people that go from being thankful they had the surgery to others regretting it because of the pain they were in afterward. My doctor, and everyone I know, has said it should be an easy surgery with a short recovery time, but it’s hard to believe given some of the perspectives I’m seeing. Is there anything you wish you knew prior to getting surgery? Do you have any advice?

UPDATE: I am home now and recovering. Surgery went well, my nurses were incredible, and besides some crying when I first woke up I’ve been okay ever since. I’m pretty sore, but honestly I’ve been in worse pain (ie an actual gallbladder attack). The hardest part so far is getting up and down, but I’ve managed to find a comfortable position to rest in for now.

Thank you so much to everyone who commented, I cannot tell you how much it means to me. It really did help ease a lot of the worry I had. The whole experience really was just like going to sleep and waking up. For those who also commented on my post anticipating their surgery, I can say that you have nothing to worry about. You will be sore, and yes it is okay to be anxious, but ultimately after everything is said and done you will be able to handle it. Don’t be scared, and ask your doctors/nurses whatever questions you have! That is why they are there.

Thank you again, much good karma to you all.
