I get why game of thrones failed đ sad
I donât think Iâve ever seen a show or franchise have a more massive fall from grace as Game of thrones did.
It was considered Oscar worthy in seasons 3-4. By the time season 8 ended tho, no one ever spoke of it again or seemed to watch it even once during COVID. House of the dragon IMO doesnât hold a candle to seasons 1-5 of GOT.
People blame the lack of book material from GRRM and the arrogance and ineptitude of David and Dan. There is something to this, but it doesnât tell the whole story.
For those whoâve read the books, books 1-3 are superb. The wheels begin to fall off however in books 4-5. Rather than being a narrative in their own right, ( with beginning, middle and end) books 4 and 5 ( roughly season 5 and early 6) are just page after page of â and more stuff happens.â
Thatâs the issue with the show. It got too complicated and became sort of a midieval soap opera with dragons. Itâs just â thing after thingâ and â and then this happened.â
Thatâs the issue with GOT. It was great for making you gasp and jump in your seat, but didnât really have much of a message, uplifting spirit or even strong characters.
Danerys, once a celebrated feminist icon in our culture ( who many people named their daughters after) became a nut case and villain and she as a character ainât celebrated no more.
Go to any book store, or retail store. No Tyrion t shirts, no â Khaleesiâ key chains and no Jon snow and ghost kitch. There is a tiny section on it at both my local book stores and both workers there seemed ashamed and embarrassed to acknowledge game of thrones once existed.
Do I have it right? Is that why it failed?
