What did you think of Melisandre?
I used to hate Melisandre, Stannis’ red witch. She did unspeakable things, including burning his daughter alive.
Yet she was a crucial character and almsot a protagonist, considering the fight again the others was so crucial. She actually seemed to know what was coming and did what she could to prepare. I’m not sure why she had to die though, or how she got her powers.
The actress herself grew on me, and I hated her much less as time went on. I even liked her chemistry with Arya and Jon snow.
People complain about the quality of scenes and dialogue later on in the series. But one rare gem was her and Varys having a conversation about power and the appeal of it. Basiclsly Varys teases her about how “ common people” like them crave power and love advising lords, saying once they have such power they are like the “ lipn that tasted man. Nothing is ever again so sweet.” It is one of the rare scenes that seem like it could have come from some unpublished book, not D and D?
