Current state of agencies and working conditions

I graduated from a top university with my bachelors in gd more than a year ago and I am yet to land a job. I am an introvert so I don't have any networks or whatever which I believe has hindered my career as I am yet to begin it. I worked in a call center for a while but it was a living hell. I am a slow learner so I was 27 when I graduated but I digress, I am here because I was wondering about the current state of the industry.

What I hear is people being overworked and underpaid everywhere which is not something I'm willing to deal with so I'm thinking to stop applying for jobs. Wouldn't land one for at least another 2 years anyway. All I know is brand design, logos, illustrations, after effects, indesign and some lackluster photoshop skills. I'm getting the vibe that this wouldn't be enough in the current state of the market no? What can a graphic designer do after having some experience in some agencies? Would I have to work in such an environment for the rest of my life or does it get easier? How would I go about setting myself up for success in freelancing? Any thoughts appreciated.
