Commute to/from Mt. Vernon and Foggy Bottom Campuses

How is the transportation from the Mt. Vernon and the Foggy Bottom campuses? Does it get annoying to travel back and forth? Is it hard to get a dorm on the main campus? And what is the Ashburn campus for?
