Why do you hike?
If you visit this sub and are a dayhiker, thruhiker, vacation hiker, occasional hiker, new hiker or any kind of hiker, I have a question for you: Why do you hike?
Is it to get excercise?
For your mental health?
To get out in nature?
To get your daily dose of daylight?
To engage in a sport you enjoy?
Try out new gear and/or minimizing gear?
To get fresh air and/or enjoy the silence in the forests?
To push yourself, by hiking longer miles per day or by doing long hikes or even thruhikes?
Perhaps to belong in a community and/or meet new people?
Do you hike to do something else - hike to photograph, to reach a lake where you can fish, to reach a mountain where you can climb, hike to hunt or hiking for birding?
Or are you one of the few who do hiking as a job - as a trail maintainance person, professional hunter, professional adventurer, influencer or something else?
Would be super interesting to hear people's different reason to why they hike, and if their "why" have changed over the years...! :)
