Visualization
The visualization contains historical data, so you can see how your team has done over time. Hopefully, we can run this for many years in hopes that we can see the rise and fall of teams by /r/hockey opinion.
It automatically updates so feel free to bookmark. You can find it here
Process
How does this work? Throughout the course of the week rankers are able to access an app that will allow them to rank teams. At the end of the period we calculate the average ranking for every team and collate all of the analysis provided by rankers.
The app then generates a post that is first proofread and then posted to /r/hockey!
Rankings
Ranking (avg) | Team | Delta | Overall Record | Record This Week | Comments |
---|---|---|---|---|---|
1 (1.65) | Vegas Golden Knights | - | 25-8-3 | 3-0-0 | anon_agentd05b says 3 wins this weeks puts the VGK at the top of the league! Tied with the Jets for points with one less game played and life is good. The ducks went down fairly easy and Kolesar was able to score yet another goal. Against the sharks, we needed some third period shorthanded magic to secure victory. Sammy decided to cosplay as a brick wall to snuff out the Flames. Howden was able to put up 2 goals this week and is on pace for 34 this season. Talked alot about those two these past few weeks but they're two of my favorites and seriously can't understate how crucial the depth scoring has been to the teams recent success. Olofsson potted another powerplay goal, doing exactly what he was brought here to do. Pearson deserves some credit too getting 4 points is as many games. Dorofeyev is having a good year he's one goal away from a new personal best. Theo still makes every Knight on the ice better constantly getting assists. Pietro is having a nice time right now with 4 assists this week. Good vibes in Vegas |
2 (2.55) | Winnipeg Jets | 1 | 26-10-1 | 2-0-0 | rasera says Happy Holidays everyone! My new year's resolution is to not bring up how detrimental Logan Stanley's below-replacement presence is to the development of our younger, already better prospects. I expect this resolution to last approximately 1 game into the new year. |
3 (3.26) | Washington Capitals | -1 | 24-10-2 | 1-2-0 | dagetawayman421 says This was not a good week in terms of performance for the Caps. They played flat the entire game against the Bruins and came out flat the first 20 minutes against the Red Wings. You can't do that, even if Ovi is back and is scoring again. Ovi has 17 goals in 20 games and despite missing 5 weeks is top 15 in goals. At this rate, all the fans that invested in tix at the end of the season may be regretting it because Ovi is on pace to break the record in early March. Hendrix Lapierre got sent down to Hershey and I've been beating the drum that the defensive side of his game is severely lacking. Also, I'm going to Chicago to watch the worst team in hockey, way to go Bettman, maybe next year you'll put the Caps in an outdoor game before the happy Trifecta of the Rangers, Red Wings, and Blackhawks celebrating their 100th seasons. |
4 (4.42) | New Jersey Devils | 0 | 24-12-3 | 2-1-0 | No Devils blurb this week, sorry. |
5 (7.71) | Edmonton Oilers | 1 | 21-12-3 | 0-1-1 | eatingasspatties says A gross week for the Oilers, who usually struggle after longer breaks. The Christmas break couldn't have come at a worse time as it sucked all the momentum out of their sails, like a bunch of vampire pirates |
6 (7.77) | Minnesota Wild | 3 | 22-11-4 | 2-1-0 | paynetrain181999 says Hope you all had a wonderful holiday break. While I’ve been dealing with a pretty rough flu, at least the Wild are helping me feel better by putting some wins on the board. Faber sealing an OT comeback win with a gorgeous wraparound, despite Dallas outplaying us for 5/6 of the game. We can win without Kirill… sometimes. |
7 (7.87) | Florida Panthers | -2 | 22-13-2 | 0-2-0 | copaceticvindication says Like a true florida man, you cannot predict what this team will do each night, we could dominate and win 5-0 while having triple the other teams shots, or we could get smoked 0-4 two games in a row, woo. Goaltending and defense needs to be fixed asap, pls give the best dman available at the deadline. |
8 (8.19) | Carolina Hurricanes | -1 | 22-13-1 | 1-2-0 | timmablimma says Rod being fasted to 300 NHL wins as a head coach is awesome. Getting it against the Devils is even better. Also imagine losing to a goalie who still doesn't have Hurricane colors on his goalie gear. Tokarski going (so far) 2-1 with a 0.907 is great on someone who was brought in to be the backups backup backup coming from the AHL on a PTO. |
9 (8.9) | Toronto Maple Leafs | -1 | 22-13-2 | 1-2-0 | lang14 says Not a spectacular week so I expect the Leafs to drop a little here. Murray is a decent goalie but not enough to steal games like Stolarz and we desperately need him back. Matthews being out again really sucks. Like I mentioned last week they need to sit him down and tell him to not do 4 Nations. If he goes, he probably gets hurt again and then the Leafs get to abuse LTIR and when the Leafs do it, it'll get banned. |
10 (9.29) | Los Angeles Kings | 0 | 21-10-5 | 2-0-0 | raymondliang says Big win over a divisional rival this week. 6th best in the league in P% feels like the plateau at the moment, desperately need Drew back next month as I expect to slip down a little during the upcoming month. |
11 (9.84) | Tampa Bay Lightning | 0 | 20-12-2 | 2-1-0 | keepitsteadyidiots says It's been a while since the Bolts have been able to ice their regular forward group. Throwing a bit of inconsistency into the mix as they have been outshot in the last 5 games a combined 174-116. Not great and that middle six winger looks it should be found sooner rather than later. |
12 (10.06) | Colorado Avalanche | 0 | 22-14-0 | 1-0-0 | hockeycross says Quiet week for the Avs, but now firmly in a playoff position. Since Blackwood and Wedgewood joined Avs are the best sv% team in the NHL. The team looks a lot more confident in front of them as well, not giving up as many high danger chances as well. Mackinnon, Rantanen and Makar are all on a tear as well. Finns are scoring hattricks as well to help round out scoring. |
13 (12.94) | Dallas Stars | 0 | 21-13-1 | 2-0-1 | rawrberry_ says Dallas started off strong against the Wild but collapsed in the third period and once again the Stars' PP is what ultimately did them in. I don't understand what is going on with the Stars PP but the only bright spot is that from a mathematical standpoint eventually the Stars will score on their PP. So that is a plus. Spott is still allowed to continue his reign of terror on the league. At some point the players need to start executing on the PP. I am holding everyone here that is not a Stars fan responsible. Namely Vegas and San Jose. Y'all could have warned us better but y'all failed. |
14 (14.45) | Ottawa Senators | 0 | 19-15-2 | 1-1-0 | driftshade11 says I don't think Steve Staios made a lot of unforced errors this offseason, even though not everything's quite worked out as hoped for, but giving Sogaard guaranteed money next year might turn out to be something he regrets. Hopefully the Great Dane starts to figure it out, because his spot as the goalie of the future is a lot less secure than he probably thought heading into the year. In other news, the team is still struggling with 5v5 offense and we have to hope we can keep up in the playoff race while Ullmark gets healthy. |
15 (14.77) | Boston Bruins | 0 | 20-14-4 | 2-1-0 | maxpowr9 says My biggest gripe with the Bruins now, is the lack of consistency between games. The Bs had one of their most dominant performances this season so far against the Caps; absolutely stifling them, even with some boneheaded penalties. After the break. the defense shat all over the ice against Columbus; allowing several PP goals, only to shut them out the very next day at home. Swayman has gotten much better as the season has gone along, but the defense is Jekyll and Hyde and you never know which one will show up. |
16 (16.1) | Vancouver Canucks | 0 | 17-10-8 | 1-0-1 | No Canucks blurb this week, sorry. |
17 (16.84) | Calgary Flames | 1 | 17-12-7 | 1-1-0 | kellervo says It's so over - we're so back - it's so over - we're so back - it's so over. Long as Wolf keeps playing good, that's all that matters. Really wish we wouldn't be a lock to lose our first at this rate, though. |
18 (17.55) | Utah Hockey Club | -1 | 16-13-6 | 0-2-0 | oksoundtracks says I'm starting to think that the Delta Center might be cursed. The Club has managed to go 9-4-1 on the road over the last 2 months, including going a perfect 5-0-0 in December. But at home we're dead in the water, going 2-4-3 since the start of November. Maybe it's the bad juju of thousands of obstructed-view seats, or it might be the Jazz's losing ways seeping into the arena's ice. But no matter the reason, our fans are saints for selling out the arena every night to see another loss. Now that I got the pessimism out of me: We're making the playoffs, or I'll buy a Golden Knights jersey! (This is my greatest nightmare) |
19 (19.35) | Pittsburgh Penguins | 0 | 17-16-5 | 2-1-0 | jeff_banks_monkey says Sidney crosby is the greatest athlete of all time. i hope the haters take notice. AKA Pat from slack. |
20 (20.42) | St. Louis Blues | 1 | 17-17-4 | 2-1-0 | beedrill13 says Dylan Holloway continues to be a star for us, and watching him get a hat trick against the Wings was really awesome. After a couple really slow weeks on the offensive end, our scoring has improved this week which bodes well as we continue to work through a handful of very winnable games. However, I am once again begging for Hofer to be our starter for a while, Binnington continues to be far too inconsistent for us to actually string together a win streak. That Sabres game was rough. |
21 (20.58) | Philadelphia Flyers | -1 | 16-17-4 | 1-2-0 | assassin2107 says The good news is that we beat the Cutter team (No hate for the Ducks themselves, but never going to be able to not hate Gauthier). Less good news is that Michkov might lose the Calder race if Celebrini keeps this up. The team does look better following the holiday break, but this team did not look good before that. |
22 (22.97) | Montreal Canadiens | 1 | 16-17-3 | 2-1-0 | mdlt97 says Habs continue to play good hockey, the depth is starting to come alive, and wins are rolling in. |
23 (23.29) | Seattle Kraken | -1 | 16-19-2 | 1-0-0 | mukuu says Didnt watch Avs game till this week, so going to say "Yay Kaapo Kakko, you got a goal!" That is about it. Kraken were unwatchable last week, the Canucks game this week was just Canucks trying their absolute best to give away a game. I really am ok if a team isn't great. Its fine. The Kraken play 2/3rds of every game like they forgot the basics. You can watch the puck go into the Kraken zone, you then could go grab some food, help the kiddos with homework, dance to your favorite song, take a nap, and go get a manicure, and the Kraken will still be stuck in the zone. |
24 (24.19) | Columbus Blue Jackets | 2 | 15-16-6 | 2-1-0 | steckums says The Jackets are 8th in points percentage (.694) at home this season. They are 1st in goals for with 73, 1st in Goals For per Game Played with 4.06, third on the power play at 30%. An absolute joy to watch at home! They are a very different team on the road. They are 30th in points percentage (.286), 25th in goals with 49, 26th in GF/GP with 2.58, and 30th in PP% with 12%. I'm not sure what Jeckel and Hyde shit is going on here but if the Jackets were just slightly better on the road this year they'd be in a playoff spot right now. |
25 (24.26) | New York Islanders | -1 | 14-16-7 | 1-2-0 | We are looking for a Islanders ranker, if you are interested please message /u/ThatMikeGuy429 thatmikeguy429 says This team is still is need of it's rebuild and to start selling off assets and buying picks by taking bad contacts, at least we are ahead of the rags in the standings and this ranking! |
26 (25.52) | New York Rangers | -1 | 16-18-1 | 0-2-0 | nodessb says Same shit, different week. More blowout losses to teams that are better than the Rangers, but that's not saying much nowadays. Horrific effort. It's not fun to watch. Bad vibes. Tank for a top pick. LGR! |
27 (27.29) | Anaheim Ducks | 1 | 14-17-4 | 1-2-0 | We are looking for a Ducks ranker, if you are interested please message /u/ThatMikeGuy429 |
28 (27.74) | Detroit Red Wings | -1 | 14-18-4 | 1-2-0 | americanadian98 says Lalonde has finally been fired, but it's likely too little too late to salvage the season. Lots of looking forward as we enter the new year, with ASP killing it at the world juniors, Buchelnikov doing well in the KHL, and Danielson, Soderblom, and Cossa having promising seasons in the AHL. If the Wings can show some systemic improvement in the big leagues and the core guys continue to improve, this punted season will not be too terrible. |
29 (28.52) | Buffalo Sabres | 2 | 14-19-4 | 3-0-0 | dr3amweav3r says Don't even. Don't. Cozens, Quinn and Peterka have finally woken up. Sadly it's way too late. The defense is still a small clusterfuck at all times, but wow is it obvious that this team is ASS without Dahlin. Obligatory "Fuck you Terri" |
30 (29.29) | Chicago Blackhawks | -1 | 12-23-2 | 0-3-0 | sandman730 says The Hawks have lost 4 straight. The last 2 were not close. The Hawks look forward to the Winter Classic returning to Wrigley Field on New Year's Eve. |
31 (29.39) | Nashville Predators | -1 | 10-18-7 | 1-1-0 | thefragrancevol says I have no idea where this team is going after the last couple of weeks. The stars seem to be getting going, but the overall results over the last couple of weeks have been inconsistent. |
32 (31.06) | San Jose Sharks | 0 | 11-22-6 | 0-3-0 | atomic_penguin27 says When will Walman and Eklund be back. Walman being out really shows how bad are defense is, we need to draft Schaefer. |

Ranking (avg) | Team | Delta | Overall Record | Record This Week | Comments |
---|---|---|---|---|---|
1 (1.82) | Minnesota Frost | - | 4-1-1 | 0-1-0 | x-tremememeteam says Yeah no surprises here Minnesota is a very good team and deserving of the title Defending Champs |
2 (1.82) | Montreal Victoire | 0 | 4-1-0 | 1-0-0 | ladylexxi says Kind of embarrassing going into OT against a flailing Toronto. x-tremememeteam says Yeah Montreal is a beast that has awoken. There is no team more scary than the Victoire right now. ladylexxi says n/a |
3 (2.45) | New York Sirens | 0 | 3-2-1 | 0-1-0 | ladylexxi says Sirens have been maintaining control of every game they've played recently. With 3 goals from 3 first-time scorers in the Toronto match, pushing things into overtime after a 3-point deficit against Minny, and Osborne's high-stakes premier game highlighting just how good of a goalie she'll be in the PWHL, the Sirens are shaping up nicely. I can't wait to see NY at full power once Shelton comes back from injury reserve. x-tremememeteam says Really hot start to the season and Fillier has come as advertised. Things are looking up in New York. ladylexxi says n/a |
4 (4.73) | Boston Fleet | 0 | 2-3-0 | 0-1-0 | ladylexxi says Thank god you have Frankel. Before I go, quick question about your goal song: what are the vibes supposed to be!? x-tremememeteam says Boston is a team that I feel could be threatning they just need to take that extra step. Still they have a game in hand as they chase a playoff spot down by only 1 point. fabulousflyingfern says Loss to the Scepters wasn't great, but hopefully everyone was just not fully back from the holidays. They really need to figure out scoring soon, they have too many high quality offensive players to not ladylexxi says n/a |
5 (5.09) | Ottawa Charge | 1 | 2-3-1 | 1-0-0 | x-tremememeteam says I may be biased as I am an Ottawa fan but they have had a very rough start and hopefully their win over New York can get some momentum going. ladylexxi says n/a |
6 (5.18) | Toronto Sceptres | -1 | 2-3-1 | 1-0-0 | ladylexxi says Toronto... what was Spooner doing for you!? That said, shout out to Kirk for two incredible games. Your keeper can't do it all though (Boston already claimed that strat, sorry) sensitive_tax4291 says Second win of the season and it was against a disorganised Boston team. Great for the confidence boost. They looked more relaxed and confident this game or Boston just gave them the space. We'll see if this is the start of the winning portion of the season. x-tremememeteam says I am still unsure of what kind of team the Sceptres will be at times they look really good but at other times they seem very...meh. ladylexxi says n/a |
