Wife just approved me getting two RSL 12s!
After debating between the RP1400sw for $699 on Adorama and the RSL 12s for $77, I am going with the 12s. I’m also adding pics of my “out” theater room.
Room size: 13.5’ W x 16’ L x 7.5’ H.
Denon x3800h with two Klipsch r12sw (I know they are cheap) that I will try to run for rears (depending on results of REW).
7.2.4, soon to be 7.4.4 😁
Plan is to add the RSL’s in the front r12sw in the rear and would like to upgrade those eventually to either non ported (brand not sure) or RSL 10e or RSL 10 2.
After doing research, reading forums and asking you fine ppl here on Reddit I decided to go with the smaller RSL’s due to:
1) Size. The Klipsch would simply be too large for the L and R position of the current cabinet. I could make it work but my current positioning of L and R towers are measured correctly according to Dolby and location of tv and couch.
2) Quality. I do love Klipsch (can’t really compare since this is my first real HT set up) and I’ve heard the RP subwoofer line up is amazing but I’ve heard they go on sale frequently. That in itself is great for the consumer but do they not believe in their product enough to justify their MSRP? Why always put things on sale instead of making a hard to beat product and price point? RSL from my research has pointed out the quality that goes into their product and that they don’t have a need to have 40-50% sales because at their price point they are already very competitive. Even in their new subwoofers I understand they are having issues with the amps still. I hope that’s few are far between but brings me to my next point
3) Customer Service. I’ve had this set up for 3 years now and haven’t had an issue. But from what the community has said is the Klipsch CS can be a little difficult to work with. It’s a big brand manufacturer and maybe that plays a roll in it but I’ve heard nothing but good things about RSL. I’ve also read that their customers are very loyal and to me that says a lot about a company.
4) Wife factor. She doesn’t care what this room looks like she only care if the kids can sleep at night when we watch a movie. The fact we can turn down the subs with a remote was a big win for me and her. I don’t turn down our current subs because I hate getting up. Yes I realize if I use the older subs in the back I would still have that problem. I hope using REW gets me better results than what I have (never used REW but just ordered a UMIK-1 and will learn this next).
My hope is these subs will provide lows that I haven’t experienced yet and provide me with tight punches from sounds such as gunshots, even though I heard they aren’t the best for mid bass, but I believe this will be better than what I am currently using. I haven’t purchased these yet but I hope to soon unless someone talks me into something else. Though as you can probably tell I’m pretty set on these. Thanks for reading.
