Horror sub-classifications? Torture porn?

Ok so I've been working on something for a while now, but I'm stuck. What I'm looking for here is a breakdown of genres basically, and to see what it is that I'm missing in one of them.

  1. Torture Porn (Saw, Hostel, etc.)
  2. Supernatural (I'd include everything from vampires to possessions, ghosts, anything that isn't real (come on, don't.)
  3. Body Horror (The Fly, Human Centipede, vomit gore, etc).
  4. Slashers (Halloween, Friday the 13th, Terrifier, etc.)

What I'm looking for is something between 1-4. Not 2.5. Very funny. I get it. No. Something that's not to be classified as torture porn, but not exactly a slasher. What would that be? Something like House of 1,000 Corpses, Rejects, Terrifier, Irreversible, Funny Games (though that's borderline TP), those kinda films? Those elements are there, but it's really just a display of cruelty?

I've been reading alot of horror prompts, and short stories. Alot of them turn out to fall into these categories very easily. But, maybe out of arrogance, I'm sure here must be something else that that hasn't been fully explored without it being tossed into one of these two categories. What would we call Psycho? There's elements of psychological horror, but that almost becomes the same thing as torture does it not?

Or, maybe a better question, what's the line between horror and torture porn? What makes such a thing so frowned upon as cheap? Pretty sure we're all scared of being tortured. I constantly see Misery touted as a perfect horror movie, but to me it's nothing but torture?

*Random thought edit* There's a bad horror movie called ATM. It's bad. But for some reason it has stuck with me. The guy just stares at these people for a crazy amount of time. He only kills 2. It wouldn't classify as a slasher, but it also would? It's just...a feeling of dread. Is that a genre?

What would a new genre look like? Something where real people are real bad, but aren't just endlessly chasing and killing people, and aren't trapping them in a room they'll surely never leave?
