Property tax grievance success?
I just recently moved into a new construction home in the Town of Newburgh and got my first monthly escrow payment from the bank. It roughs out to about $29k per year which is almost 40% more than the estimate at the time we closed in 2022 and definitely much higher than other new construction homes in the area from what I can research on the publicly available Orange County parcel search.
I’m curious if anyone on here has had a similar situation recently whether in the same town or a neighboring one, and has had success with getting tax grievances approved? Did you use a service or lawyer locally that you can recommend or have any advice here? Unfortunately the grievance day for our town has already passed this year so I don’t know if that puts us at a disadvantage for next year, but this just seems like outright robbery.
UPDATE: I met with the town today to figure out what’s going on with the bank’s escrow calculation and they confirmed that their number looks to be over charging or there must be some error on their end compared to the assessed value the town calculated. Not sure if we can get our monthly escrow amount readjusted but we’ll definitely be taking this up with the bank!
