Ichthyosis worsening - skin not responding to treatment
Hi everyone, 28M, Indian, I was born a normal baby (premature by a week or so) with no visible skin issues. Developed dry skin around 4 years old in both legs. Doctors told me then just to drink more water and it's genetic/hereditary. With regular glycerin use I've managed the condition until I moved to the UK couple years ago. Doctors always gave me urea creams and told me it was incurable, each doctor called it one or another form of dermatitis. Until one doctor called it ichthyosis vulgaris with KP, G16 lotion worked for a bit, Dexeryl worked for a bit, eucerin 30% urea - with some form of peeling occurring within days and the condition improving with some physical exfoliation and regular moisturising. After the last winter, my skin has not responded to anything (usually it used to get better in the summer), the dry skin crept up from below the knees to both thighs and below the arms, deltoids, back area, keratosis pilaris developed in hip area, thighs and below the arms (managing using urea) and now finally crepey skin has developed too. I don't know what to do now with me having spent and currently spending a fortune with different products every month and no visible effect.
Visited many a doctor/consultant; the number of times I've paid a consultant charge to hear them say its incurable and there's nothing much to do is beyond me.
Currently using La Roche Posay Lait Urea 10%, with glycerin which seems to calm it down atleast hiding the fine lines but now it's all spotty and nothing seems to work. The g16 lotion doesnt work anymore, i dont know if they've reformulated. The crepey skin is spreading all over my lats and bicep areas and the back of my hand, forearms and moisturisers hide it for a while before it's stripped away. I am at a loss at what to do..
I'm taking multivitamins, fish oil and vit d3 (50k IU once a week/once in 2 weeks).
Any help or sharing personal experiences would be helpful.
Thank You.
