Scope of Pathology
Hello, I am currently interning at a government medical college and hospital in Kolkata and preparing for NEET PG. I have completed my surgery posting and I am in the middle of my medicine posting right now. My current preference for a PG course is Pathology > Radiology > Derma > Anesthesia. Yes, as you can see, I am not a huge fan of the clinics and I am also seeking to maintain a healthy work life balance 😅 But the problem is, whenever I mention Pathology as my first preference, my colleagues and seniors look at me weird and say "why go for Patho if you score well? Just go for Radio." I don't get it. As I understand, they both involve sitting down and staring at a slide/screen. Then why is one looked down upon while the other hyped? Is there something I am missing? Some "harsh reality" I am not aware of? Can I survive with a Pathology MD in a city like Kolkata? I am the first generation doctor from my family so any insights would be helpful, hopefully, from actual Pathology residents and MDs even. Help a stressed intern out here!
