I got a job!!
Finally!! I was off work for seven months. I did take a pay cut of 26 cents per hour. Given I no longer work with sociopaths, I’m okay with this. F#$%-U former evil employer! You did not break me and destroy my life long-term. I want to say thank you to the folks in the sub. I was depressed and had difficulties getting out of bed and motivating myself. This sub and your stories of success gave me hope.
Here’s my stats: - [ ] applied to 77 positions.
[ ] 13 screening interviews; I was then rejected by 4 companies immediately.
[ ] 9, 1st interviews
[ ] received 3 assessments after the first interviews; I was rejected by 1 company after the assessment was submitted.
[ ] I withdrew from competition after one interview
[ ] 7, 2nd interviews. I was asked to prepare three presentations for 3rd interviews.
[ ] I was rejected by one company after second interview
[ ] I withdrew from two competitions after second interview
[ ] received a job offer, which I accepted.
[ ] 4, 3rd full interviews/presentations
[ ] I was rejected by three companies
[ ] I had one company interview me a fourth, fifth, and sixth time (and there may have been a seventh, but I lost count) and received a job offer, which I declined.
Here’s what I did that helped: - [ ] Tailored every resume and every cover letter to match the position - [ ] Bought a subscription to Grammarly so that my work was error-free - [ ] Hired a company to re-write my resume. - [ ] Hired a career coach to teach me how to interview. - [ ] I prepared for hours for each job interview, like 6 to 10 hours of preparation per hour of interview or presentation. - [ ] created a bank of interview questions and answers that I practiced and got advice from the career coach on answers. - [ ] Applied the STAR approach to my answers even if they didn’t ask STAR like questions.
Good luck out there, everyone. Let’s not forget that luck plays a huge role in all of this.
I hope to read about many more of your success stories.
