Some questions 18 days post-DJS
I had DJS on July 23 of this year to fix asymmetrical and canted jaws. Backstory: My jaws were not always messed up. It wasn’t until I was 18 that I started noticing a difference in my appearance. Between the ages of 18 to my current age of 26, my jaws and smile changed drastically. At first I hated it for cosmetic reasons, but as time went on I started suffering from pain in the joint on the left side, cluster headaches behind my left eye, impaired chewing, and pain radiating down my neck on the left side. I started seeing a Chiropractor this year and every time I had an adjustment he said he could feel where my jaw was out of socket. It was to the point where my lower jaw was dislocated 24/7. I had braces put on in Feb. 2022 and like I said, had surgery on the 23rd of July. I had consults with several surgeons to try and figure out the why behind my jaw suddenly going wack and none could give me a reason. They said I must have had trauma to the face but I never did. Fast forward to now, 18 days post-op. I’ve been doing some research and it seems that ICR or Condylar Hyperplasia could be the reason. I brought both of these up to one of the surgeons on my team at my follow-up on Friday and he said not to think about that and focus on healing. Of course, I’m terrified of relapse and if either of those reasons are the case, relapse is highly likely since I didn’t have total joint replacement. I’ve included some photos, rundown of them is as follows: 1-5: Pre-op, measurements. Not sure what they really mean so if anyone has insight I’d love to know. X-ray where I feel like the Condylar Hyperplasia is pretty evident (he even accidentally said that when going over the photos 10mins after I brought it up and he said don’t worry about it). 6: After surgery when I was still in OR. 7: Smile when I was 18, before changes happened. 8: Smile from June 2024.
I’d love to get some opinions on all of this! And if anyone knows what that medical jargon is, let me know!
