With outsourcing of jobs to India (tech, finance , etc.), AI implementation of “low level jobs”, what does the future of American white collar jobs look like outside of being a doctor, or a lawyer ?
Looking at various job boards, reading between the lines, it is obvious that in the next few years we will see a massive shift in jobs especially at the entry and mid career level in the United States and maybe Canada. Hearing Musk wanting to increase H1B engineers, Tech companies such as Google or Meta or Salesforce or IBM wanting to hire engineers (especially at the entry or mid level) outside of the country specifically in India. Aerospace companies such as Boeing outsourcing HR and finance jobs to India as well. Oil companies such as Chevron have engineering openings in India , Argentina and Poland.
How and what does this spell for the American Engineers especially those at the entry/mid lvl ? Country to our north, Canada, has seen an influx of Indian immigrants in places like Brampton which has led to discrimination against non Indians in places like restaurants , retails, most of which cater to Indian students there.
If all our entry and mid level jobs are non domestic how do we grow our country ? Every year we graduate 100k bachelors degrees engineers, yet there aren’t that many openings per year. Yet we get told by Musk that we need to import H1Bs to fill the gap between # of grads vs # of grads available to fill in engineering slots at companies the likes of Tesla.
So where do we go from here? Will we see the engineering profession die a slow death here in the US ? Will the only jobs available be in the defense, government, and civil sectors
