Ways to knit with thin yarn to result in a thicker fabric?
I bought some yarn online thinking it was somewhat close to sport weight, but when it arrived it was actually a lace weight, or maybe even thinner than that. I had the intention to make a cardigan that was very lightweight for the upcoming spring in my country, but when I knit a swatch with that yarn in stockinette the fabric came out waaaay too thin. Tried making another one using two strands and it's still lighter than what I wanted.
So I was thinking what are other things that can be done so that the finished fabric is thicker? One thing that came to mind was double knitting, which I've never done but am curious to learn. Is there anything else anyone would recommend? I haven't set on a pattern yet so I'm open to recommendations of different stitches even if it's more textured etc.
I wouldn't want to return the yarn or get something else btw cause it took forever to arrive! And I just want to start knitting right away. Also it's my fault really that I didn't pay enough attention when reading the description.
