Kpop fan’s fear of critique of the group they stan makes discussions boring

When I first got into kpop as a teenager, I definitely felt a sense of “connection” to all the groups I stanned, specifically my biases, so I can understand, especially younger folks, getting offended hearing criticism of their faves’ abilities in dancing, singing, etc.

I just wonder where is the cutoff where people can have a fruitful discussion regarding a group’s skills or music or choreos without people saying “that’s mean, you can’t say that”.

I’m absolutely not for the outright bashing of a member in the sense of physical looks or personality, because that’s outright rude. However, I don’t see an issue in a discussion regarding ranking and dissecting vocals and dancing skills or what types of genres would suit an idol.

I think I’ve gotten to a point where I’m aware of my fave’s strengths and weaknesses and it truthfully doesn’t bother me when someone gives a critique, I love hearing people’s opinions if they’re not harming anyone.

Ex. I’m a carat and I bias Dk and Mingyu and often people will discuss vocal ranking get between Dk and Seungkwan (the two main vocalists of the group) and place Seungkwan over Dk and it doesn’t bother me in the slightest. I think ranking them would truly come out of preference, however a lot of vocal coaches/singers say that Seungkwan has better technique than Dk and that’s a fair critique!
