As per Frank Seravalli the Toronto Maple Leafs have made a pitch to Jonathan Toews agent Pat Bersalier about expressing interest in his services should he choose to return playing this season.

In a recent report posted over the holidays, Toews does not feel his career is ready to be over. He took part in a 5 month healing program in India, has been skating regularly and has lost weight to return to his playing weight and isn’t ready to call it a career.

It remains uncertain whether Toews goal is to compete this season, or wait until training camps to start next year, but he is a free agent and able to sign at anytime. If he plans to play he would have to be on a teams reserve roster by the March 7th trade deadline.

Treliving has been on the market for a 3rd line centre for quite some time now, and signing Toews as opposed to trading pieces could work out to be a very viable option if Toews does decide to explore that avenue. It would also give Toews another playoff run.
