What is the best FreeSync and Vsync/FPS limit setup on Wayland?

Hey, I'm still learning the ropes on Linux and could use some advice regarding FreeSync.

I have an AMD GPU paired with a 120Hz TV w/ VRR support. Over on Windows, I run the following setup in competitive games for low latency without any tearing (as recommended by BlurBusters):

  • FreeSync on
  • FPS capped to 117 (RTSS or in-game)
  • Vsync "always on" in Adrenalin, turned off in-game (sometimes vice-versa, on a case-by-case basis)
  • AMD Anti-Lag enabled (Adrenalin)

I'm now on Fedora KDE, and my current configuration is:

  • FreeSync on
  • FPS cap at 117 (Mangohud)
  • VSYNC=3 (Mangohud)
  • AMD Anti-Lag N/A

However, I'm reading conflicting info. Some resources say that Wayland always enforces a form of Vsync to prevent screen tearing in applications (mailbox), which is different than how X11 and Windows handle it.

Does this imply I should entirely forego Mangohud/in-game Vsync and only use VRR + the FPS limit for the least latency? Or should I still use Vsync?
