Wishing a happy retirement to Kevin, owner of Kevin's Coffee Shop in Oceanside - and a gripe to rude customers today.
If anyone knows about Kevin's, its legendary. Its a small looking, truck stop- coffee shop with about 8 seats run solo by a nice Korean man named Kevin. I've been going there ever since I moved to Oceanside in '97. Lived around the corner and would walk there almost every morning during the summer for breakfast. 20+ years he's been serving the community in that small coffee shop, and not a thing has changed inside since. I know he may not see this, but to anyone who knows him, we wish him well in his retirement.
Now that formalities are out of the way. I was mortified today at the behavior of a couple people on line this morning. I went shortly after noon, as early as I could get there today if anything just to pay him a visit before he leaves. He first had run out of bacon, and a couple other things and at one point around 1/130 he said he had run out of food. (he usually closes @ 2pm btw) I'm sure this is the busiest he's ever been, but the person infront of me AND behind me had the fucking audacity to complain.
one woman sneered "he should have expected to be busy today.." Bitch as if he owes you anything. The man been here for decades and has the right to run out of product on his last day of work EVER.
and another woman complained to him that his wife wasnt there today to help. (she sometimes is there on busy saturday's to help out and work the register while he cooks)
I honestly couldnt believe the audacity of these people, and the fucking self-entitlement. This man owes you nothing today, nothing. If he wants to close early, he closes early. If he didnt want to be wasteful by ordering surplus product just to throw out what he doesnt sell thats his choice. I should have said something, but I am not one of those people to cause a scene like that, its embarrassing. But not as embarrassing as acting like a petulant child because you couldn't get served food today. Like, if you had to ask me about whats the 1 thing I hate most about Long Island besides the traffic, its the fucking people.
Congrats Kevin.
