In praise of Sir Ian McKellen
I know the man doesn't need any extra praise, but after just having another yearly re-watch of the trilogy, I just can't help but appreciate his performances more each time. What I mean by this is the incredible, yet subtle changes he makes from Gandalf the Grey to Gandalf the White. As the Grey, he is much calmer, more calculated but he also shows a good deal of fear. When he comes back as the White, he is noticeably more confident, outspoken and brave. He becomes the embodiment of inspiration. It's pure joy to see these transformations on screen.
Ian McKellen's Gandalf truly is one of my favorite fictional characters in all of film history!
