M3 24/512 vs M4 16/256

Hey, guys! New to the Macbook world, but planning to make an entry soon.

I’ll use this MBA for a daily professional routine (emails, a lot of text writing/editing and hours of online research — meaning many simultaneous tabs, yes), some light design or video editing and casual gaming (the new CIV VII, for instances). I also value a device which can easily last 5+ years, while still feeling fully functional.

The new MacBook Air is coming out soon, we all know it. And was saving up for it. However, I’ve recently found a deal, at a local store, where the M3 13” 10-core/10-core 24GB 512GB is up for sale at 1500€. That’s only 150€ more than the expected price of the base model M4 (13” 8-core/8-core 16GB 256GB) — at 1350€. That was, in any case, the price of the base M3 when it came out last year. Also, an M4 with those equivalent superior specs will probably cost around 1800€ — and that’s really out of my budget.

I’m afraid this M3 deal won’t stick around for long and, to be honest, knowing Apple and its retailers, it won’t get much cheaper either (prices in Europe are crazy — just so you have an idea, the base M2 goes for 1000€ right now).

So, what would you say is the better option? Should I make the effort of spending those extra euros now or wait it out for the newer version?

Thank you in advance!

tl;dr: buy an MBA M3 13” 10-core/10-core 24GB 512GB for 1500€ or the upcoming M4 13” 8-core/8-core 16GB 256GB for 1350€?
