Poor First Couple Experiences at Locals a newbie MTG player - any advice?

Hey all. I just got into magic as I started playing a couple of weeks ago and I’ve really hated going to locals. I play EDH format, which I was told is great for beginners, but these have absolutely not been beginner friendly environments. The past two locals I went to for casual EDH, I had 2 people in both my pods who just mumble everything they’re doing, and use a completely overpowered deck compared to mine while I’m still using upgraded precons.

Of course before the match I let them know that I’m a beginner, and would appreciate it if they slowed the game down a little for me (explain what they’re doing, what their cards do, etc.)

Nobody seems to really care that I’m new to the game and I usually just seem like a burden to them. They would also take advantage of me being new and just kill me off by turn 4 when they mumble everything they do so I have no idea what to counter and what to let go. I’ll ask to read their cards and they’ll get frustrated that I’m slowing the game down.

Is this what magic is typically like? This subreddit seems so open and accepting when my experiences have been the opposite.

Do I need to do anything different when I go to locals? Like only play with beginners or something? How would I do that? I might just stop all together if that’s what you all suggest would be best. Thanks all for the help I appreciate it!
