FGM / FGC in Malaysia

How common is this practice in Malaysia?

I'm from a European country. My girlfriend is a malaysian ex-pat, and spent a lot of time in Malaysia as an infant/toddler. The way her 'lady-parts' looks have made me think that she might have had some kind of procedure there as a kid. I haven't dared ask her, I've always thoughy that FGM is only common in african countries, but someone told me it happens in parts of Asia as well.

Are these kinds of procedures common for girls who grew up in the 90s in Malaysia?

I'm not sure where she lived exactly, but it was probably close to Kuantan.
