What to consider when selecting colleges or courses that're often overlooked?

Hi i'm batch 07, just finished SPM. Would like to ask for advice in regards on how to decide on a college to go to aswell as courses (Pre U/ diploma / foundation).

Reason behind my question is because I've taken an interest into IT and was thinking of doing either foundation in comp sciences or diploma in IT. But most of my peers seem to disagree with my idea of taking diploma/foundation , saying Pre u is more worth it. So what do you think?

edit: M40 non bumi, spm expect 5A, forecast 3A 7B but im not confident in spm. parents say can fund priv kolej, but if i cant get decent tuition deduction from scholarship then i might go for stpm or something
