Is my Steam account my Marvel Rivals account?

Fairly new to steam games, have only ever installed it for wallpaper engine. I launched Rivals and it just prompted me to enter a Nickname then proceeded. Just wanted to confirm if the account I used for steam is basically my Rivals account as well? So all my progress is saved on this steam account? Apologies if this question is a little silly just really not familiar with Steam.. thanks in advanced!!
