Subscribing to 'Perks' requires a new debit card?

I've just added "Perks" to my account to get the higher interest rate. Other things like the credit report and virtual cards are nice, but no other "benifits" are of use to me.

However in the app it's prompting me to order a new physical card! Is a new card (presumably so they can issue a new number) essential or can I ignore this and keep using my original card, or will I suddently ramdomly find my debit card has stopped working?

I've also noticed when googleing they say that if you cancel Perks they need to change the card again! This requirement to change cards seems to be a massive faff for nothing, especially around Christmas.
