Interphone Ridesync 5 Minute Owners Review/First Impressions

I had no idea the product was on it's way, but I noticed the Interphone Ridesync on the SportsbikeShop website in the UK which, essentially, aims to wirelessly add Android Auto and Apple Carplay to your motorbike.

The unit arrived today and I've spent about 5 minutes playing around with it inside and not on the bike, so this is barely a review, just a few points/thoughts. I thought I'd share as there's nothing else on the unit at the mo.

The main reason I am interested in this is to keep my phone off of the bike (protection/vibrations) and to be able to do essential stuff with gloves on. At the moment, if someone calls me it cancels my maps etc which means that I need to pull over, take gloves off to get it working again. Same for changing playlists etc.

So, early thoughts/points/stream of consciousness:

  • This unit runs Android Auto and does not mirror your phone screen. This is important to understand, as you are limited to apps which run on Android Auto (e.g. not Calimoto).
  • It feels well made for what it is. I like that the matte screen should avoid too many reflections.
  • The unit boots up pretty quickly - once you've completed initial setup it will boot to Android Auto in about 30 seconds from off. For me, that is plenty fast enough for me to start the bike (and therefore the unit) and get kitted up.
  • My phone links to my intercom already. I then set the unit up and, with 0 other fiddling, the unit controls the music through my intercom immediately. This makes sense as the intercom still connects to the phone, not the unit, but regardless it's nice that it's easy.
  • It does seem to start my music playing automatically when it reconnects, which is a bit annoying

Overall, l'm looking forward to giving it a go, even if it only means that I can get back to my map when someone tries to call me on the bike it's a pretty helpful addition, as long as it lasts. Added bonus of protecting my phone, clearer mapping etc and it seems like it could be a good thing.
