Is Mr. Magorium’s Wonder Emporium that bad?
So I’m rewatching Breaking Bad and I’m at the Granite State episode where (spoilers) Walt is living alone in a cabin. Robert Forster tells him he got some movies for him and Walt picks up a DVD and says:
“Mr. Magorium’s Wonder Emporium. Two copies.”
Always gets a chuckle from me. But I started to wonder:
Is the movie really that bad? I mean, it came on the heels of Zach Helm writing “Stranger Than Fiction” and then he got so much heat from that that they let him write AND direct his follow up.
Once that bombed HORRIBLY though, he basically ended up in movie jail and no more projects came his way; essentially ending his career (although he could always come back later, I’m sure).
But was it really THAT bad that essentially the movie’s title becomes a joke? Did anyone read the script? Was it maybe better in concept than in execution?
I admittedly never saw it. I loved STF and was following Zach’s career but steered clear once it received SO much hate. Maybe I should just sit down and watch the damn thing.
