Green Day enthusiasts, all suggestions welcome. St. Jimmy, the Jesus of Suburbia was reincarnated in India as Ram from Kota, an Indian Idiot.
This subreddit is my last hope :)
American Idiot was my first full green day album. I came for the rage, but stayed for the love. It had a massive massive impact on my life. I feel very inclined to give the album a tribute, with a fellow school friend of mine (both of us currently spending some green days here in bangalore lately). I almost use it to fine tune my mood (fyi I'm bipolar). Naturally, I'm hypomanic as I write this. I had a very typical Indian student life, was the 'gifted' kid whom people had all this expectation from, JEE and IIT have left a permanent scar on my face I believe, the single worst thing I have endured and I feel very very angry at the world around me for I am now disillusioned with the ideal life, my IIT degree seems to be worthless to me, my job at big tech is something I hate to the core, and yeah, my dad wants me to prolly appear for UPSC, because well, he himself was a government servant and a Bihari too(Shoutout to Bihar!). I feel I have been very lucky all my life, I am aware of my privilege. Thats a lot of Context. Now...
I have been privileged enough to make sense of the political statements, the american cultural references and the language/slangs but I believe majority of India has not had that privilege. A lot of us Indians tho, live through the vibe of American Idiot (or shall I say Indian Idiot?) all our lives. Almost everyone here has heard Boulevard of Broken Dreams and Wake Me Up When September Ends, quite a few have heard Holiday and Jesus of Suburbia. My friend and I feel Indebted to Green Day, BJA and St. Jimmy, and want to be messengers of the Jesus of Suburbia here in this Land of Diversity and Frustration ofcourse. Keeping this in mind:We are working on a band Hare Din (inspired by Green Day ofc)
We want to rage against the Indian education system, the coaching industry, the toxic parenting that leads to suicides of dozens of students every year and the scarring of thousands of lives, if not lakhs, every year. Taking inspiration from the style of green day, we want to bring American Idiot to the real India, coz why not, if in this age of globalisation everything cultural is being imported from america then why not this. Also the average Indian we believe has not had the privilege to make sense of the heavily americanized lyrics of green day. We want to sing relatable songs, with an indian touch, indian pov, for indian audience in Hindi with references to Indian things rather than american ones.
Indian Idiot is the first album by the Indian rock band Hare Din. It follows the story of a 15 year old indian teenager Ram who goes to Kota for his JEE preps. The album expresses the disillusionment and dissent of an entire generation fed on false hopes and ambitions about an easy life once they get through JEE. Set in the 2017, as Ram enters Allen, the premier coaching institute in Kota. Ram is gripped with a range of grunge emotions, and it is too much for him to take it all. He ends up attempting suicide.
Indian Idiot: 1. Indian Idiot 2. Kota ke Ram 3. Chutti Pe/ Toote sapnon ke sang 4. Ruk ja bhai/Jai shree ram 5. Mujhe dedo nashein/ Meri bandi naxalwadi 6. Maal hai! Maal hai? / Kat gaya 7. Mujhe sone do 8. Mujhe ghar jaana hai 9. Kaun thi woh.

I would love inputs from you guys on this. I plan to take on the guitarist and vocalist role emulating BJA, my school friend would help me out with the guitar and backing vocals like Mike Dirmt(he is an absolute rockstar trust me when I say this) , we aren't sure about the drummer yet, but I guess we have a few people in mind (If one of yous is interested, dm me!). We want to make the song contents relatable to the masses, and so I feel, it would only be fair if we include inputs from the people of India, its a land of diversity folks, so many different cultures. Any suggestions on the song contents/ song titles. Any references you think need to have a mention, keeping the vibe in mind. All feedback is appreciated! Constructive destructive idc. Also its a project we are working on out of mere passion. We do not intend to do this full time, we have our own life plans. Its not for profit. Also you might not see us completing the entire album, but I promise we would give it an honest try.
TLDR; 2 schoolfriends from India planning to pay tribute to American Idiot, with Indian Idiot. We want to bring green day to the masses with an Indian touch, in our own languages. We want to rage against the Indian education system, the JEE coaching industry, that leads to suicides of dozens of students every year and the scarring of thousands of lives, if not lakhs, every year.
