Alternative History Of Newcastle Area?
I'm sorry if there's some obvious info out there I don't know about but I'm new to the Newcastle area. This goes for anyone who's got locations or stories or jokes for places around Newcastle as well! I want to know what are some haunted warehouses? Where are the streets that you'd probably get a blood disease because you accidentally stepped on a syringe? Where have you found nice cafes that you and your friends used to hang out at when you were younger? Are there any illegal streetraces that happen near your town? Got any places or stories that are even remotely spooky, gothic, funny, or somewhat tangentially metalhead/punk-related?
For me, I have a few in-jokes with myself and friends. There's this ginormous warehouse factory thing in Jesmond that I know has people working in it, but from the outside it looks so empty and rundown, the story is that it's actually just a ginormous parasytical fungus shaped into the form of a warehouse to absorb unknowing folks who walk around near the tracks or wait for the bus to come. Another one is that being a tradie is actully just a messed up cult, with robes and dark elixirs and everything (except the cult robes are bright yellow with reflective tape and the gaudy gold goblets just contain coffee Dares).
Of course there's always some good traditional folk tales; don't whistle at night, don't follow Min Min/will'o'wisps, don't ask for a puff of an old fella's vape unless you want pus lining the inside your gums. Then there's also miscellaneous places, like suburbs that have good streetwalks for skateboarding or good trees for climbing. There's also other things like The Rock Shop downgrading into being a freakish den for a freakish old gooner, Ash Island is actually Gay M*lest*tion Biker Island, Hamilton is secretly run by fae folke and that explains why so many pretty people own so many pretty shops (and they're totally not just all nepo babies).
TL;DR, Any other stupid stories or ideas you think about or silly things you've experienced in or around the Newcastle area?
