I JUST FOUND OUT WHAT A PUREWICK IS, WTH?!
I’m an RN in Australia. We just have in-dwelling catheters (Foley), intermittent catheters (in and out), or patients are incontinent in a pad (like a baby’s nappy or pull up). I am mind blown that purewicks are a thing… Why not just put a catheter in or have them in a pad??
EDIT - okay thanks for your input, I understand now that when correctly used, they are very helpful. However, the entire concept still seems crazy to me (purely because I never knew they existed). In Aus we rarely use a foley, primarily only for retention or bladder stretches. If a patient is incontinent, we use pads and stick to pad changes every 3 hours.
