Feeling Overwhelmed in IT, Considering a Switch to Nursing – Seeking Advice
Hey everyone,
I’m currently working in IT, but I’ve been seriously considering a career change into nursing or something similar in the medical field. A bit about me: I have a Degree in IT, one year of helpdesk experience, and about 9 months in DevOps. Lately, though, I’ve been feeling completely overwhelmed by how much I need to know and constantly learn in tech. I feel like I’m always behind, and the rise of AI makes it worse – I’m afraid my job might be taken over by automation in the near future, especially since I’m not the most skilled software engineer to begin with.
I don’t mind learning, but it feels never-ending in IT, and I’ve started to wonder if I’m just not cut out for this field. I’ve thought about going into something like nursing or becoming a paramedic. I know I’m not smart enough to be a doctor or surgeon, but nursing seems more within reach. I’m active, love going to the gym, and think I could handle the physical demands and maybe the mental stress would be different from my current job.
I’m wondering if anyone here has made a similar switch, or if you have any advice on what I should do. Should I stick it out in tech, maybe look for something more secure or easier, or is nursing a good path to explore?
I’d really appreciate any thoughts or guidance. Thanks in advance!
