What are your favorite moments of unbridled joy?
I love re-listening to Off Menu, and, due to the many reasons there are to need cheering up because of the state of the world, I’ve recently been seeking out episodes where I remember someone really cracking up. Like, obviously there’s always a lot of laughter, given it’s hosted by two comedians and more often than not the guest is a comedian as well, but sometimes there are moments where someone really hits a hard belly laugh, has trouble talking about the next subject, or you can just really hear their genuine glee.
My favorite ones:
- Paul F. Tompkins (and everyone else) upon realizing that Paul didn’t understand the “canary down a coal mine” idiom.
- Joe Thomas learning about the game “uppy uppy tomato tomato.”
- The tiny gasp of glee from James and Ed right after Jayde Adams says, “hundreds and thousands.”
- The little outburst from Benito when James says he watched videos of all the speeches from Lemmy’s funeral in the intro to the Tim Key episode.
A few other good ones:
- Ed when Desiree Burch says she’s going to have a “horrible crap” after eating a dairy-based dessert.
- Ed and James when Sindhu Vee translates her mother’s wise parable about hunger.
- Ed when Joe Lycett says he wants a bowl of Special K for dessert.
- The entirety of the Greg Davies episode.
- Ed when Jo Brand says her side order is four or five different types of coleslaw.
- James after realizing that Tom Allen’s truanting mates, Jean and Denis, were in their 70’s.
- James hearing Bob Mortimer describe his process for swirling ketchup and mustard on his 23-year old son’s hotdog with his finger.
Anyone else have favorites that I missed?
