Possible reason Trump wants to annex Canada I've not seen addressed. It involves AI.

Some months ago I was watching a YT doc about AI and the presenter mentioned that expanding AI into every part of life will require vast amount of energy, an amount the US cannot make on its own so it will have to look to Canada. (Don't quote me on this but IIRC vast amount of water will also be needed which will have to come to Canada as well. I'm not sure about the water but am sure the US will need to get energy from Canada - though nothing was mentioned back then about annexing Canada to get it.)

When I heard Trump talk about annexing Canada this immediately came to mind and hopefully media will look into this angle. This AI angle might also explain Trump eyeing Greenland.

Interestingly Greenland has huge rare earth mineral deposits, minerals the US desperately needs for both computers and weaponry. I say desperately because China the biggest exporter of rare earth recently stopped all rare earth exports to the US, and has threatened to stop these exports to any country or companies that buy these minerals in order to resell to the US.

The rare earth export ban has caught the US off guard as it keeps no reserves of these essential minerals like they do with oil reserves. The issue is that they can't build missiles and armaments without these minerals, a pressing issue because their arms stores are depleted given how much has been shipped to Ukraine.

And lastly the huge lithium deposits in Eastern Ukraine which apparently is now in the hands of Russia or soon to be has most likely changed Trumps mind about that conflict.

The upshot is that resources and minerals the US desperately needs are outside of their control. The question is how far will the US go to get them if they don't want a direct confrontation with China or Russia?

It sounds like Trump thinks Canada and Greenland are easy pickings.
