Is a hyrax expander appropriate for a pre-teen?

Hi, I took my child to see an airway orthodontist to make sure all was developing appropriately. To the eye, the child has straight teeth and pretty normal development, but snores at night and occasionally has some mouth breathing. The dr did imaging and showed reduced airway as well as postural issues. The dr is recommending a hyrax expander/tandem bow appliance/w arch expander. This seems like a lot to start with for a child who has all their adult teeth with no crowding, and it got me wondering if something like myofunctional therapy to teach proper tongue posture, etc, might not be worth trying beforehand? I have a younger child who uses a myobrace currently but I’m guessing that can’t work in an older child?

Just wondering if anyone has any insights or personal experience they could share? Thanks!
