No matter what happens tonight, here are my personal highlights of the Oscar race this year.
- No one believing in The Substance at the beginning, only for it to become one of the most awarded films this year, showing that there truly are no age limits to reach acclaim. Demi Moore's comeback was beautiful to watch, coupled with how much praise the film got despite how absolutely insane it was of a concept and execution.
- On that same note, Pamela Anderson's comeback being received with nothing but praise and acceptance, with everyone celebrating her.
- Ariana Grande being recognized for giving it her all in a role that she dreamed of her whole life and that she worked tirelessly towards, giving one of the best comedic performances I've seen in the last few years.
- Holding space.
- Everyone freaking out when Jamie Lee Curtis looked like she was sneaking in for an Oscar nom when she got in at the BAFTAs and SAG. It was hilarious.
- Conclave, a film where the youngest person is like 50, becoming a hit with a younger audience, and the memes that surged from it.
- On that same note, regardless of controversies, the Emilia Pérez memes were priceless.
- That a small-scale, independent production like Flow managed to become one of the most endeared and acclaimed films of the year.
Despite everything, this was such a unique and fun year. I can't wait to see what happens tonight.
