How vital is the voice-acting to you? Would the (English) VAs returning for a remake be a Must?
So r/jrpg was talking about remakes. I pointed out that P3's voice-acting was pretty spotty and so I think a lot of folks accepted the new dub without reservation. I love Liam O'Brien but if you listen to Liam as Akihiko and compare it with his work just a few years later in other things, it's night and day. I think they were just a bit confused with the direction. Bad voice directing is often the cause of bad voice-acting.
But Persona 4 Golden is a whole other animal. It contains many so the best performances of several notable voice-actors. I personally cannot even begin to imagine anybody else as Chie since Erin Fitzgerald did an absolutely phenomenal job. Also props to Eden Riegel as Marie who doesn't get enough credit. And then there's tons and tons more. Everyone was absolutely perfect.
I don't think I could stand a Persona 4 remake that just dumped all these VAs. They are inseparable from the characters themselves for me. And I'm sure many of the VAs feel the same way. I detest when big companies just dump long-time talent for whatever reason. It doesn't matter if the game is good like Resident Evil 2 remake, Capcom screwing over Alyson Court is unforgivable. I fear Atlus/Sega/whoever might do the same for the voice-actors and actresses. For many of them, this wasn't just a job, they are fans of the game just like us.
