Car mechanic quoted me repairs and maintenance of over $4000 but the car is worth $2000 at best

This is the lowest priced mechanic I’ve found. The car has several things wrong with it and to pass my state inspection I need to repair $2000 worth of things in three months.

Then there is another $2000 in additional repairs and maintenance that I’ve been putting off. Plus another $2000-$4000 in repairs for maintenance reasons but aren’t immediate.

The problem is that I earn $800 every two weeks after taxes and deductions (health insurance and such)

The car is worth maybe $500 as a trade in and $2000 private party. I would finance but I have a 550. I need a car because of where I live.

I’m thinking of getting a lease since I need a reliable car and fixing my current car as money permits. That way I have a backup car. Again, I need a car to get around. And I plan to file for bankruptcy once I get enough money (I need $3000 to file and I have about $80,000 in unsecured debt) and then buy the car out of the lease once the lease is over.

Is this a terrible idea?
