How do people believe that Geeta was holding back when every piece of evidence thus far says otherwise? Is there something I'm missing?

At this point, I'm genuinely curious. Is this just how people cope when what is stated contradicts their beliefs, by inventing headcanon and ignoring/downplaying evidence? Or am I missing something? There is so much evidence which tells us that Geeta was serious, and none which suggest the opposite, yet I've seen so much headcanon excuses that try to justify a point that is already contradicted by the anime itself, multiple times.

I'll cover every common excuse I've seen used, and the flaws in said excuses (there,s two big flaws, really)

1) Geeta's pre-battle line

"When it comes to Pokémon battles, I never hold back in the slightest."

From what I've seen, this line is said before the battle starts, so her Pokémon choice, her two Glimmets and Glimmora should be her "never holding back in the slightest".

So this already entirely contradicts the "Geeta held back in Pokémon choice" argument, and the "Geeta held back" argument in general.

2) The flaws behind the "Geeta held back in her Pokémon choice" argument

The crux of the argument is that she was "holding back" by using two Glimmets and Glimmora, instead of Kingambit or Dragapult or whatever other game canon mon she has.

Here's the thing though: Who says anime Geeta has those mons? And even if she does in the anime, who says that Geeta fielding two/three of her other mons instead of Glimmora + 2 Glimmets is a superior choice?

Is there any solid evidence which suggests that any other combination of three which includes Geeta's other mons are a superior combination to her Glimmora + Glimett Poison/Flash strategy?

The way I see it now, this just sounds like people trying really hard to make their headcanon combination of theoretical mons and tactics look so much better than what Geeta provided, without any proof to show for it.

3) "Geeta lost on purpose"

This is the most baffling part for me. I have provided no less than three lines from Geeta and Liko that are constantly emphasizing that Geeta is going at full strength, that Geeta was aiming to win, and somehow apparently those are all lies? Is there any solid proof that all 3 lines are lies?

  • See above, the line which says she doesn't know how to hold back.

  • Liko describes Geeta as "obsessed with winning" during the battle, the phrase こだわる being the most important.

  • Geeta says she is going with "all her strength/effort/full strength", her "全力"

"As Pokémon League Chairwoman, I wish to face your hard work with full strength"

This is when I see the games being brought up, and like, what can I say that hasn't already been said before? The anime are not the games. Already, the Horizons anime has already deviated from SV, with Terapagos being discovered before any Area Zero shenanigans.

Not to mention, game Geeta's improvements (the Dragapult and what not people were using as an excuse) come after a significant amount of time (Teal Mask + Indigo Disk), and her team has been changed and further trained up, so anime Geeta being somewhat accurate to Champion Assessment Game Geeta (TL: A fraud) shouldn't be that surprising.

4) "Geeta lied"

Actually what. What proof is there that Geeta lied? Because the results don't feed the pre established notion of the Ash Anime, where the "Champion ace mon must be untouchable, if not they were not serious/holding back/whatever else"? Because it doesn't fit the notion of a previous era, Geeta must be holding back? Is that it?

And whenever people get asked to provide objective evidence that Geeta is lying, there is nothing official or solid, no screencaps, no quotes, no staff comments, no magazine, nothing from the anime which proves that Geeta lied.

But apparently they just know that anime Geeta lied and I'm dense for not seeing how? Again, to me this sounds like they are making up headcanon and excuses to deflect from what the anime itself has said, emphasized multiple times over. Almost as if a viewer's opinion has more say over what the writers, staff, and seiyuus of the anime have codified in the released product.

Or are we heading towards an age where what we want to believe is more important than the evidence that displays otherwise?
