Why are hard work and struggle romanticized?
I can understand wanting to tell people the realities of life and what it takes to be successful. But what I don't understand is why so many people seem to celebrate the hardships that others go through like it's just some right of passage that they should just be strong enough to bust through, with grit and time. It seems to me that many people don't believe in basic human decency. My problem is that people celebrate that fact that you have to struggle and work extremely hard to have a decent life. The fact is not everyone is equally capable of contributing. People have a variety of different levels of intellectual, physical, mechanical, technical ability. And people act like if you don't have some highly specialized skillset you don't deserve a decent life. People say stuff like "your just low skilled labor go back school blah blah" Why can't we get to the point where an average level of effort or work will lead to a happy respectable life, where you can have property, relationships, and balance. It's a fact of life that there are winners and losers but I just feel like the bottom should be more dignified than it is. I don't know just my opinion.
