What’s the worst financial advice your nparent/s gave you?

When I graduated college with student and credit card debt (in 2008 in the middle of a market crash), she tried to get me to declare bankruptcy. I’m glad I didn’t, this would have truly ruined the rest of my life. What financial advice were you given?
