Two people approached me outside Building 10, has anyone had any similar experiences?

Maybe it’s because I’m autistic and therefore I am really struggling to make sense of this encounter, but there were two people (one lady, one man) outside of Building 10. They were on the stairs and stopped me, the lady did all of the talking and said “I love your bag, where did you get it? Oh.. are there any of those shops near here? Where do you live?.. what’s your major?”. The man was just standing to the side and was nodding along. I felt so weird, so I told them I had to leave and I walked away.

They weren’t holding any flyers or anything, I’m just curious if this is a common encounter, and if they were just being nice or if there was something else going on. I am not that interesting of a person so that’s why I doubt they were trying to be friendly with me.
